Biography

Maya Elena (She/They) was born in New York City in 2000 and raised in Arizona.

Maya Elena graduated from Bard College in May 2023, holding a BA in Studio Arts.

They are an interdisciplinary artist who focuses on topics of political vs. cultural identities and generational healing through social practice and community engagement work. Maya plays with different artistic mediums and objects of life to convey these stories.

In summer of 2023 Maya completed an internship at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, where she worked as the Children’s Program Studio Assistant. Through this internship, Maya explored more pathways of art education and questioned what it means to curate spaces for accessible art intended for cultural workers, healers and all artists.

Maya currently resides in Chicago, Illinois - continuing to explore generational memory work and accessible material in their studio while continuing to build and Co-found the Rest, Root, Revive (R3) Collective with a band of 7 artists across the US.
